Joseph B. Cahill, who has served as
a reporter and in a variety of editing positions at Crain's
Chicago Business over the past 10 years, has been named the
paper's new editor, effective immediately. As Crain's top editorial
executive, he will direct the paper's staff of reporters, editors
and graphic designers.
Mr.
Cahill, 46, became the publication's managing editor in January
2004. Previously, he was an assistant managing editor.
A former corporate lawyer, Mr. Cahill worked
as a Crain's reporter from 1995 to 1998. He then joined the
Wall Street Journal as a Chicago-based reporter before returning
to Crain's in 2000 as an assistant managing editor. A native
of the Washington, D.C., area, he graduated from St. Norbert
College in De Pere, Wis., and earned his law degree from the
Illinois Institute of Technology/Chicago-Kent College of Law.
He also holds a master’s degree from Northwestern University's
Medill School of Journalism.
“I'm proud to be chosen to lead an
outstanding group of journalists and look forward to building
on the traditions that make Crain's the pre-eminent source
of business news in Chicago," Mr. Cahill says.
Adds Crain’s Publisher David Blake:
"First as a Crain's reporter and then as an editor, Joe
has shown a remarkable passion for covering Chicago business
news and a keen understanding of Crain's editorial voice and
values. Under his leadership, our newspaper and Web site will
continue to grow in importance and sophistication."
Mr. Cahill succeeds Jeff Bailey,
who left Crain's in February.
