Laurie Nations, a veteran of
direct marketing, general advertising, and integrated
marketing services, has been elected president of the
Chicago Chapter of Women in Direct Marketing International
(WDMI). Nations, who continues in her post as senior vice
president and group account director at Draft Chicago,
will take office on July 28.
Nations adds her new role at a time of great expansion
for the direct marketing industry. Direct continues to
play an ever-larger role in marketing budgets and goes
far beyond direct mail to include data analytics, direct
response TV, print and online advertising, retail, promotion,
publishing, telemarketing and other types of direct response.
According to industry experts, U.S. direct mail alone
is expected to grow 8.5 percent to $56.6 billion in 2005. |
"These are
exciting times for those of us in direct marketing,"
said Nations. "The power of customer data, backed
by smart analysis, is delivering the positive business
results that are ultimately responsible for the explosive
growth of our industry. This disciplined approach is fuel
for the growth of all segments of the direct marketing
industry. Women in direct marketing today face a future
laced with opportunity."
Current plans for WDMI include broadening the scope of
the organization's programs and events, while expanding
and diversifying membership by fueling outreach efforts
to agencies, corporations, academicians and students.
A mother of two and a three-time Chicago marathon finisher,
Nations is a 10-year veteran at Draft, where she directs
work for the Los Angeles Times, and the National Postal
Forum accounts.
